BIENALSUR 2021 openings in San Juan

Two projects selected from the Open Call carried out by BIENALSUR in 2020: Give and Give and Víctor Grippo. An Oven for Two Tables, curated by the Belgians Charlotte Crevits and Tommy Simoens and the Argentine Carlos Godoy respectively, inaugurated at the Franklin Rawson Museum and the Sarmiento Birthplace, in the Argentine province of San Juan, on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 of August. The General Director and the Artistic Director of BIENALSUR, Aníbal Jozami and Diana Wechsler, presented the exhibitions of Kms 1006 and 1005 of the BIENALSUR 2021 cartography together with the directors of each space, Emanuel Diaz Ruiz from Museo Franklin Rawson and Silvina Vazquez from Casa Natal de Sarmiento. Also joining the openings and the beginning of both exhibitions -which include the first functions of the BIENALSUR / MPBAFR Video Program and activations of clay ovens to make bread in the courtyard of the Birthplace and in different public spaces of the city such as access to the Museum of Urban History- were Jimena Ferreiro, coordinator of Museum Planning of the National Directorate of Museums of the National Ministry of Culture; Marisa Baldasarre, National Director of Museums; Claudia Grynszpan, Minister of Tourism and Culture of San Juan; Virginia Agote, Secretary of Culture of San Juan; Paulina del Valle Vera, representative of the family of Víctor Grippo; the artist Carlos Gómez Centurión; the executive secretary of the Banco San Juan Foundation, Laura Adamoli; Liliana Piñeiro and Florencia Battiti, from the BIENALSUR 2021 Curatorial Council; and part of the public who came to the different activities following current health protocols. The inaugurations in San Juan are part of the second chapter of the openings corresponding to the third edition of BIENALSUR in Argentina that began on July 8 in the province of Salta with the presentation, at the Lola Mora Provincial Museum of Fine Arts, of the exhibition The Listening and the Winds. Narratives and Inscriptions of the Gran Chaco, curated by Andrea Fernández (ARG) and Inka Gressel (DEU/CZE). New openings will take place in the country, in the City of Buenos Aires, on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 of August, at the National Museum of Decorative Arts as well as at MUNAR in La Boca neighborhood, where the exhibitions Commoner Fantasies will be presented, curated by Leandro Martínez Depiteri (ARG), member of the board of BIENALSUR 2021’s Curatorship, and STREET, curated by Adriana Lestido (ARG) and Carlos Herrera (ARG), respectively. Worldwide, BIENALSUR will be present from Monday 23 to Friday 27 at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil, where it shall present FACTORS 8.0 - In-Situ and Online Digital Circulation, within the framework of the Art, Science and Technology Festival and curated by Nara Cristina Santos (BRA) and Mariela Yeregui (ARG). While on the other side of the ocean, in Spain, on Saturday the 28th, the exhibition curated by Diana Wechsler, titled A New Order. Breaking Down Borders, will inaugurate at the Francis Naranjo Foundation, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Upcoming openings and more information at bienalsur.org
