TOGETHER APART 2025

Opening: Friday, August 22th  TOGETHER APART is a cosmopolitan civil society initiative based in Cúcuta. It emerged in response to the border crisis and the impact of the Venezuelan exodus on Colombia. It offers a comprehensive development proposal for the cross-border area through art focusing on cultural diversity, conditions for peace and sustainable development within a solid framework of international relations. Now in its fourth edition, it is the largest citizen and cultural mobilisation in the recent history of the border in favour of integration, with a direct impact on more than 30,000 people (in 2017, 2019 and 2021). Since its inception, it has been an official BIENALSUR venue. As well as its programme in the Cúcuta metropolitan area, it implemented the Together Apart 2020 Virtual Channel during the pandemic, and organised exhibitions and activities at the Museo Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá and the Museo de la Inmigración in Buenos Aires in 2021. In 2023, the fourth edition switched from a biennial scheme to a platform format. It took place in Cúcuta, with educational activities in Mexico City and a commemorative exhibition in Casa de América in Madrid, Spain. In 2024 and 2025, the processes with artists/agents will be concluded and pending invitations to foreign agents will be formalised. This year, marking a decade since the border closure that inspired the project, the event will culminate in a major cultural event and a bilingual printed publication intended to systematise and preserve the knowledge acquired in and from the border.
