Opening: Thursday, September 11th, 6 p.m (GMT-5) The basin of the Paraná River is one of the second largest in the world after the Amazon basin. In addition to their size and biodiversity, both face several environmental issues, including droughts, wildfires and pollution. Two of the most important ecosystems in the American continent are under threat due to the loss of plant and animal species, soil degradation, and water and air pollution, among other catastrophic consequences of human activity. The hyper-consumerist way of life, which demands ever-increasing production and is driven by an insatiable extractivist dynamic, has left an inexcusable trail of devastation. However, this cannot be reduced to merely searching for a fairer, environmentally friendly socioeconomic system. It also requires us to redefine our sense of connection to our shared world and our surroundings. This exhibition considers that the environmental crisis is also a philosophical and existential problem. Focusing on two vital ecosystems, it relies on the potential of art to raise awareness of the need to change our consumption habits as well as the importance of a profound shift in our perception of the environment.
