Italian artist Cristian Chironi at Casa Victoria Ocampo

29/06/2019

The second edition of BIENALSUR 2019, Argentina's contemporary art cultural event for the world, on June 30 at 5:00 p.m. at Casa Victoria Ocampo opens a performance entitled "Cutter" by Italian artist Cristian Chironi, which also kicks off a three-week residency that will include an open meeting with the public.

In this performance, the artist, using magazines and printed images, removes with a sharp instrument all the images of what is becoming extinct or has already become extinct - both elements of nature and architectural elements - until new relations are generated between the pages that follow one another, explains curator Benedetta Casini of BIENALSUR.

In addition, Chironi intervenes the rooms of the Victoria Ocampo House with a selection of works carried out during his previous residences in emblematic buildings of the modernist architectural movement around the globe.

The artist carried out residencies at Casa Wabi de Tadao Ando (Puerto Escondido), Casa Pierre Jeanneret (Chandigarh), in the constructions of Le Corbusier within the framework of the project My house is a Le Corbusier: Esprit Nouveau (Bologna), Studio-Apartment (Paris), Appartement 50 - Unité d'habitation (Marseille), Casa Curutchet (La Plata), various constructions in Chandigarh and the interventions in the Cité de Refuges (Paris) and the Pavillon Suisse (Paris).

The artist combines these interventions with the housing experience in the Victoria Ocampo House, where, during a month-long residence, he will conceive and carry out new interventions that will be shown from 23 July in the exhibition hall of this construction located in Rufino de Elizalde 2831, Km 5,7 of BIENALSUR.

Besides, meetings with the artist, performances, projections, sound listening and lectures related to architectures conceived as living spaces that promote dynamism and encounter between different cultures and languages will be organized periodically in the house.

Cristian Chironi studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. He lives and works in different parts of the world. He uses different languages, often in dialogue with each other. His site-specific works of a performatic and installation nature always seek interaction with the context, be it human (public) or environmental (space).
