Opening: Thursday October 23th, 5 p.m A Common Thread is an international contemporary textile art project that promotes dialogue between artists from Mexico, Germany, the United Kingdom, Croatia, and Kyrgyzstan, together with the master craftswomen of Tamchij -Chihuatl, Nahuas from Hueyapan, Puebla, curated by Dorothea Schöne (DEU) and Greta de León (MEX), is part of BIENALSUR 2025 as an associated exhibition. The project consists of a residency and a collaborative process, during which the participating artists use wool shawls woven on pedal looms in Hueyapan as the basis for their creative interventions. This exchange brings together traditional techniques and contemporary practices, establishing a cultural and aesthetic connection between communities, ancestral knowledge, and contemporary artistic expression. The exhibition is curated by Greta de León (Mexico) and Dorothea Schöne (Germany) as part of a collaboration between ARENET (the Americas Research Network), Kunsthaus Dahlem (Berlin) and MACCO (Oaxaca).
