Echoes of posthumous memories

The skies of Porto Alegre and the sea of Florianópolis were the initial triggers of Denise Gadelha's proposal, constituting a fictitious landscape from the solid foundations of reality. The reliable representation and the construction of something new, that is to say deliberately constructed, were amalgamated in two initial photomontages titled "Reverso" (2002) and "Espacio Permeable" (2003), constituted respectively by numerous analogical photographs of small size.

However, integrating the reality in which we are immersed, the avatars appear; this is how the artist's initial mosaic was the victim of a water leak that permanently and irreversibly affected the condition of the work in 2016.

Far from opting for its destruction, this accident went on to integrate the artist's proposal, taking into account the place of the imponderables and the unpredictable in our contemporaneity and giving rise to another "something new" as a visual and material translation of the vicissitudes to which both our habitat and its inhabitants are subjected.

"Echoes of Posthumous Memories" is a long-lasting processual project that will take place in the different spaces -both open and closed- of the UFRGS (Porto Alegre, Brazil), and integrates one of the curatorial axes arising from this second open and international call of BIENALSUR. This photo-installation in permanent expansion and multiple possibilities accounts, through its peculiar materiality, for the passage of time and the almost resilient adaptation to changes. At the same time, the conceptual turn of the work towards environmental experimentation proposes -in a talking way- to reflect on the mutations and limitations imposed on us in the passing of our time.
