The MAC/VAL has joined BIENALSUR 2019 with two actions. Firstly, the residence of Argentine artist Hugo Aveta, an invitation to produce a specific work in tune with the territory, resulting in the project La facination de la faille, in which this photographer and artist from Córdoba revisited his main research tropes, such as time, archives and history. In addition, this institution located in the suburbs of Paris, will be part of the biennial programme with the exhibition Persona Grata?, featuring more than one hundred works by artists from different latitudes who question the universal and humanistic notion of hospitality through the prism of the present. With their own vision and sensitivity, these creators approach all the dimensions of what builds or drives the notions of reception and otherness. They thus express an implicit statement against the current rejection of “the other”, something so evident these days in migratory problems. The exhibition hosts the essence of Jacques Derrida’s assertion: “Hospitality makes the impossible possible”.
