Didier Marcel
Didier Marcel (b. 1961, lives and works in Dijon, France) is a French sculptor known for his exploration of form, texture, and scale. His work blends natural motifs with contemporary materials, transforming everyday landscapes into abstract compositions. Using resin molds of tree trunks as sculptural columns and reliefs of plowed earth, Marcel creates enigmatic pieces that question our perception of nature as a cultural construct.
His refined installations play with framing and presentation, using unique plinth structures and showroom-like displays to emphasize artificiality. His work references art history subtly, merging craftsmanship with conceptual sophistication.
Marcel has exhibited solo at institutions such as the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2010), MUDAM Luxembourg (2009), and MAMCO Geneva (2005). He has participated in La Force de l’Art at the Grand Palais (Paris) and completed major public commissions, including a project for the Paris tramway (2012). His work is in collections like the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, and MAMCO.
