As part of the construction of an art community without borders, the International Open Call Towards BIENALSUR 2025, aimed at artists and curators of any nationality, was announced in Buenos Aires.
From March 4 th to April 8 th , 2024, artistic and/or curatorial projects may be submitted for selection by a jury of renowned international curators to be included in the programme of the fifth edition of BIENALSUR 2025, organised by the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero (UNTREF), a public university in Argentina.
The application must be submitted online, through a platform in Spanish and English (Click here). Proposals may be entered within the horizon of contemporary theories of art and culture that contribute to thinking about, questioning or offering new perspectives of the myriad life experiences of our time.
Since its first edition in 2017, the unique format of BIENALSUR and its collaborative and networking process has encouraged the art of each region to be present from their own singularities and relative positions.
Museums, cultural centres, universities and non-traditional spaces in large cities and small towns in various countries, as well as public and private institutions have hosted during each of the editions, exhibitions that promote the development of critical thinking with autonomy regarding canonical narratives and alternative practices within the world of art and culture in their modes of production, exhibition, circulation and consumption
Over 2,000 artists, curators and intellectuals have participated in the different editions. For many, BIENALSUR has been a unique opportunity, not only to exhibit their work and research in exhibitions outside their countries of origin, but also to reach out to public and private institutions on the five continents.
Anibal Jozami, General Director of the Biennial, said: “Among the distinctive features of BIENALSUR, the international open call is one of the strategies that we have been implementing since the first edition with a growing impact. We continue with this initiative because we consider that it contributes to democratic access; we are interested in the free and independent possibility that the call offers to artists and curators from all over the world”.
In turn, Diana Wechsler, Artistic Director, said that “BIENALSUR is a plural project; thus, thinking with others, listening to different voices, identifying points of view is part of the spirit that inspires the international open call which, from its horizontality and through the presentations of artists and curators, seeks to probe the problems present in the most diverse and distant artistic”.
