Aesthetics and health in the hospital ecosystem Opening: Thursday, December 11th, 11 a.m This project is based on rigorous interdisciplinary research at the intersection of visual arts, medicine and anthropology. Created specifically for the vaccination centre at the Muñiz Hospital, the mural intervention forms part of BIENALSUR 2025. This proposal fosters an encounter between art, nature, and health, in line with the continuous commitment to developing projects in decentralised spaces and bringing art to places not usually associated with it. The project was developed in two complementary phases. It initially involved a preliminary study to document and analyse the presence of art in hospitals in the southern part of the city of Buenos Aires. The second phase resulted in an artistic intervention that transforms the healthcare space into an immersive forest. Under the title Plant Vaccination Centre, this ecosystem draws on the surrounding flora, including plant species found in the hospital environment and nearby neighbourhood parks, such as Parque España, Parque Florentino Ameghino and Parque Patricios. The methodology used emphasises this territorial connection, as all the species were drawn on site through a process of learning, observation and direct engagement with the vegetation of the city's south. The intervention redefines the hospital architecture as both workspace and waiting room, while, in the team’s words, “proposing a potential to redefine the right to health in a way that includes the right to beauty”. Plant Vaccination Centre thus fosters a dialogue between art, community, and wellbeing, reaffirming the role of natural and aesthetic environments as integral to healthcare.
