TALKING THREADS, Textile Traditions in Contemporary Art

Alejandra Mizrahi Residency: October 1st – 20th

Exhibition opening: Saturday, October 18th, 12 p.m.

Opening and discussion: Saturday, October 18th, 6 p.m. - With the participation of artists Alejandra Mizrahi and Beatriz Morales; Mónica Villegas, coordinator of Fundación Marso; Sofía Mariscal, director of Fundación Marso; Greta León, general director of Red de Investigación de las Américas; and Liliana Piñeiro, executive coordinator of BIENALSUR.

For the first time, the Marso Foundation is participating in BIENALSUR, currently in its fifth edition.

This international contemporary art biennial offers an artistic and cultural journey that transcends borders. From its starting point in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Tokyo, Japan, it spans over 18,000 kilometres, connecting spaces, artists and audiences worldwide.

This exhibition is the result of a residency in which Argentine artist Alejandra Mizrahi engaged in a dialogue with Mexican artist Beatriz Morales. Both artists explore the intersection between textile practices and the struggle to defend territory. The fabrics are presented not only as aesthetic or functional objects, but also as a fundamental language of resistance in which colour, symbolism and technique become political narratives.

These contemporary artistic practices revisit these living traditions, revealing how textiles can serve as cultural archives and repositories of memory, as well as tools for resisting dispossession under colonial and neoliberal regimes.
