It is widely acknowledged that art does not need to be useful, nor have common and limiting ties to factual reality. However, in relation to human sensitivity, art fulfils undeniable functions that go far beyond the qualities of ordinary objects. These functions are fundamental to Suspended Agora. What do they consist in? Producing stimuli, phenomenological perceptions and deep connections with the environment; fostering links between strangers, however brief; and reinterpreting material limitations with creative solutions that temporarily suspend reality. These distinctive features of art generate emotional relationships between people and the world. They also lie at the heart of this project.
Suspended Agora is an itinerant, accessible module made of synthetic fabric and structured by a modular aluminium ring. Suspended from a central point, it can accommodate up to twenty people at a time. Inside the module, groups of visitors can interact with each other and develop new perceptions of space and time. The reference to the ancient Greek agora is relevant, as it evokes spaces for encounter and reflection.
