Arroba y Marea is a performative installation that combines various artistic disciplines, such as visual arts, dance and music. It is an offshoot of Blindados, Andrea Moccio's 2023 exhibition. The performance features two key pieces from that show: the imprecise replica of La Cautiva by Lucio Correa Morales (1906) and the sculpture of Queen Isabel from Arturo Dresco's Monument to Spain (1936). Moccio embossed these pieces with delicate aluminium sheets and moved them from the public sphere into the exhibition space. Gabriela Romero dances and performs with, between and within them. Under the direction of Juan Pablo Galimberti, the artists bring to life an intimate encounter of poetic coexistence, in which the bodies narrate the recurring violent cycle of history and reactivate memory.
Through the unlikely encounter of two symbolic female figures, this fictional narrative aesthetically represents the layers of a history of capital accumulation, inequality, and concealment. At the same time, it urgently reaffirms the political importance of public spaces and their vital role in the civic arena.
