Perfect Balance. Jenő Barcsay’s Oeuvre in a New Light

Opening: Wednesday July 16th, 6 p.m

Opening hours: Weekdays and Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM The Hungarian University of Fine Arts pays tribute to Jenő Barcsay on the 125th anniversary of his birth with a special exhibition. Jenő Barcsay (1900–1988) was a pivotal figure in Hungarian modern art, best known for his contributions to constructive and geometric abstraction. As a painter, graphic artist, and influential educator at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts, Barcsay helped shape the post-war art scene in Hungary. His Anatomy for the Artist textbook became a standard reference, blending artistic vision with scientific precision. Barcsay’s legacy lies in both his own innovative works and the generations of Hungarian artists he mentored. Perfect Balance, not only presents the artist’s rich body of work but also sheds new light on Barcsay’s art through recent research. The exhibition features numerous newly discovered works, explores his mosaic art, and showcases original drawings from his internationally acclaimed book Artistic Anatomy. It also offers a glimpse into the compelling world of nonfigurative painting.
