Opening: september 10th Kiosk is a site-specific installation inspired by the architecture of security. Usually inhabited by security agents, a genealogy could be traced of the construction of the sentry box/booth/shed and the roles and performances attached to this small enclosure. Featuring the usual functions of security, guard, surveillance, personnel, rest, shift, the sentry boxes allude to iconic references such as those of Guantanamo Bay and Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. Johansson highlights the likeness of these popular structures to other current uses and performativities, such as those found in food trucks and food kiosks, and triggers reflections on the symbolic value of the booths, the concept of the prefabricated and the standardization of experiences. In his installation in the gardens of MUNTREF, the artist modifies the original appearance of the booths and their functions in order to create new experiences and expectations. Benedetta Casini
