Here and Now / Ici et Maintenant

In these turbulent times, where the boundaries between the real and the virtual seem to slide into each other to the point where they coalesce, times when certainties take on the glimmer of fiction which is as necessary as it is illusory, questions about being, about the here and now, resound all the more strongly.

It is no longer about – how could it be? – giving an answer but rather about proposing well-thought through forms of considering-being-here and now. From the dawn of modernity, and probably even before that, being is about immediacy. We are here and now. We can no more go back in time or space than we can go forward. It is only here and now. But what does that mean? What is the distance between two or more here or there? Is it about time?

These are some of the questions that spring to mind as we interact with the work by María Maggiori and Julia Suero. Between the lines drawn in space and the sound composition, Ici et Maintenant is a mirror work duplicated in another space: France. A work arising from dialogue between the materialities of the artists, which invites us to open our ears and our minds to meeting and involvement. The instantaneous, the simultaneous and the actions of the spectators alter the perception of the work in both visual and sonorous terms. The dialogue between the spaces and the lines traversing these, as well as the sounds emerging suggest that being here and now requires another here and now. The fragments of immediacy are conjugated in the simultaneity of distance while from the taut lines arise new spaces where will and desire can be freely articulated.
