Seventy-three forty-nine

The work of the French artist Bertrand Ivanoff can be placed within the heritage debate, since his work installs precisely the dynamic and subjective dimension of the concept of cultural heritage. His work points out, marks, underlines that which we do not see, that which is neglected, which he seeks to highlight, to reincorporate into the circuit of the visible and in that process to revalue, and thus, to recover, to protect. The object chosen on this occasion is the Palais de Glace, an old building inaugurated as a skating rink and confectionery in 1910, which in 1915 became a dance floor and saw the most important tango orchestras of the time. Since 1932 it has served as a site for the plastic arts, hosting the National Salon and the collection that year after year is enriched with these annual competitions. It is of singular interest then, to put in the exterior some indication of that which for 85 years has been happening in the interior. This is the meaning of the "change of skin" that Ivanoff assigns to the Palais by playing on its exterior with geometry, anamorphosis and colors, giving visibility with this gesture both to the building and to what happens inside it.
