"The choice is there and back" a phrase by the Frenchman Marcel Duchamp, made in neon lights by the visual artists, Gabriela Golder and Mariela Yeregui, are part of the permanent intervention in the house in Buenos Aires where the so-called father of conceptual art and other trends in contemporary art stayed. Placed on the lintel at the entrance to the bar, the phrase is accompanied by two images on the windows made of vinyl of Duchamp himself playing chess.
There is a Duchampian mythology surrounding his visit and his time in Buenos Aires. It is said that here he discovered a passion for chess. There are some books like Raul Antelo's or Graciela Speranza's that record his journey, the cultural searches and even some of Duchamp's phrases, in which he assures that he came to Buenos Aires just to play chess. However, everything about his visit has been very enigmatic.
The intervention of Duchamp's historical site included several actions in the street, among them simultaneous chess games, guided tours, unveiling of an allegorical plaque, exhibition of films, talks and concert of contemporary music.
