Pablo Reinoso and Hugo Aveta, two Argentines in French territory

2019/09/09

The artist Pablo Reinoso will give a talk at the Maison de l'Amérique Latine, in Paris, where Desde el otro lado (On the Other Side), a production by BIENALSUR and UNTREF Media, will be screened from September 16 to 23.

In dialogue with Aníbal Jozami (general director of BIENALSUR) and Diana Wechsler (artistic-academic director), Reinoso will refer to his work Desde el otro lado, which is exhibited in the vicinity of MUNTREF Antiguo Hotel de Inmigrantes, in Buenos Aires, a set of intertwined trunks of different origins, alluding to displaced persons, refugees, exiles and all those who arrived "from the other side". The activity is carried out in collaboration with IESA, International School of Cultural and Art Market Professions.

The inspiration, or the triggering element for this work by Pablo Reinoso, is found in an abandoned dock next to the building, the remains of a port, far from its original purpose which was to serve a city founded on the richness of exchange as has historically been the case of Buenos Aires, a closed place, in disuse, "forbidden", which will be permanently projected on the access screen to the Maison de l'Amérique Latine, in Paris, "on the other side" of the ocean. This project is sponsored by the French Embassy and the Institut français d'Argentine.

Also in France, in the town of Vitry-sur-Seine, the MAC/VAL Musée d'Art contemporain du Val-de-Marne joins BIENALSUR with two actions: the first is a residence of the Argentine artist Hugo Aveta, invited to produce a specific work in resonance with the territory, and from where the project La fascination de la faille was born, in which the photographer from Cordoba, Argentina, resumes his main research themes such as time, archive and history. On September 21 at 4 pm, the artist will give a talk on the process of his monumental intervention in the exhibition Persona Grata? at the MAC/VALwith more than one hundred works by artists from different latitudes who question from the prism of today's universal and humanist notion of hospitality. With their own vision and sensitivity, these creators approach all the dimensions of what constructs or pushes the notion of reception and that of otherness. The work can be enjoyed from the 4th of October.
