BIENALSUR 2021 opens to the public, on October 15 at 6:00 p.m., two new exhibitions at the Isaac Fernández Blanco Museum of Hispanic American Art in the City of Buenos Aires, with works by artists from Italy and Argentina, traversed by the curatorial axis Ways of living.

On the one hand, Other Winds-Ostro, by Bruna Esposito, one of the most prominent voices in contemporary Italian art and among the most eclectic in the use of languages and media, will be presented. Curated by Benedetta Casini, the exhibition consists of an installation whose central theme is environment-caring. As the curator explains, this project adds a new chapter to an investigation that the Italian artist has been developing for a long time.

“Other Winds-Ostro is the first work in this series about the hot winds of the southern Mediterranean. The installation consists on a gazebo made with natural materials, among which there are bamboo poles and ropes. It is a welcoming place that invites to relaxation and dialogue, inhabited by a fan powered by photovoltaic energy and naval propellers, a recurring element in Esposito’s productions. These examples of low-tech applications in the domestic environment are suggestions for those who want to approach the conscious use of eco-sustainable energy through easy-to-apply solutions. The work arises from the synergy between different areas of research and materializes the artist's vision and her need to question the so-called “consumer goods” such as, for example, air conditioning. Presented for the first time at the Stefania Miscetti gallery in Rome and shortly after at Magazzino Italian Art in New York, during its Argentine period Other Winds-Ostro is tinged with sacred tones. Framed in the environmental cause, the gazebo reflects the formal characteristics and celebratory functions of the altar that faces it, immediately acquiring solemn and ritual connotations”, points out Casini.

"Other Winds-Ostro" has the support of the General Directorate of Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture within the framework of the Italian Council program (2020) and will be open for visitation until February/March 2022.

At the same time, Communal House, by Argentine Marcela Sinclair and curated by the Artistic Director of BIENALSUR, Diana Wechsler, will also inaugurate. An interactive intervention located in the museum's garden that deconstructs and reinvents iconic elements of its neocolonial style as well as other architectural symbols of the City of Buenos Aires. "Communal House" will exhibit until December 20.

Both works that are presented at KM 1 of BIENALSUR can be visited free of charge with two schedules. Until October 31, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 a.m. to 8 p.m. As of November 1, the weekdays will extend their time slot from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
