Opening: Sunday September 21th, 2 p.m. 2025 edition of LGP, Saturday, September 20th, and Sunday, September 21th, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
La Paternal, a neighbourhood located in the north-central area of the City of Buenos Aires, is predominantly residential. In recent years, it has become home to numerous artist studios, both in individual spaces and in large venues shared with many fellow artists. This concentration of studios has given rise to an artistic scene that, since 2017, has been brought into public view through La Gran Paternal, a biannual, self-managed event that allows artists to open their studios to the public and host a range of activities. Each edition is organized around a theme reflecting the spirit of the moment, such as those chosen for 2024: “Culture must not be stained” and “BURNS”, which express a commitment in times of crisis. Participation has grown significantly, now encompassing more than 39 studios and over 100 resident artists, along with invited guests.
The activities are not limited to the studios; they often make use of the neighbourhood’s public spaces for performances and installations that re-signify the environment. La Gran Paternal aims to create and strengthen connections among artists, the broader artistic community, and neighbourhood residents. For the current edition of BIENALSUR, in which they are participating for the first time as part of the official cartography, they will hold a single annual event focused on various actions in both the studios and public spaces. Through such activities, they seek to reflect on and bring attention to the gentrification issues currently affecting the neighbourhood—a latent threat to its identity: NOT FOR SALE.
