About Del otro lado del estigma:

Del otro lado del estigma is a site-specific installation by Betsabeé Romero for the external corridors of the MAMBO - Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá, designed to accompany the walker on his or her route around the museum without interrupting the passage.

The artist offers an aerial stroke for the writing and reading of figures that occupy the space in serpentine form to allude to the fragility and danger in which migrant families find themselves during their journeys. The composition refers to the structure of the papel picado garlands that are installed in parallel lines in the urban space during popular celebrations in different communities.

As in many of the works that Betsabeé Romero has made in public spaces over the last twenty years, the installation addresses the theme of mobility and its impediments, migration and its obstacles. The continuous repetition of the figures suggests the lack of a final destination, the legal, labor and economic limbo that keeps them symbolically moving from their place of origin to an undetermined goal.
