Mariano López Seoane will give an open lecture to the public, in the context of the exhibition Will This Time Be Different from Martha Rosler, for which a free public reference library with feminist content was created, with the proposal to ask about sexual dissidence as a historical experience, as a practice and as a figure in his collaboration with a series of radical aesthetics that marked much of the twentieth century. We are referring to explorations characterized by cutting the spheres of cross-country culture, and in which appear the crosses and contaminations between disciplines and registers. The aesthetics of sexual dissidence unfold in the sphere of visual and performing arts, but also in cinema, literature, theatre and activism.
The question of the temporality of this confluence is precisely the starting point, understanding that one of the objectives of this lecture is to determine whether we can continue to talk about dissident sexualities in times of a post-Fordist capitalism that increasingly tightens the ties between economy and the production of subjectivity.
Mariano López Seoane is a professor and researcher in the Master's Degree in Gender Studies and Policies at the Tres de Febrero National University. Since 2016 he has served as academic secretary of the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies and Policies (CIEPOG) at UNTREF. He is also professor of Latin American Studies and Queer Studies and Theory at New York University (NYU). At the same time, he works as a critic, writer, curator and translator specialized in theory. From 2017 to 2019 he coordinated the Conversations Program of the Art Basel Cities: Buenos Aires initiative and in 2018 he curated the Sexual Diversity and Culture Space of the Buenos Aires International Book Fair. In 2017 he published his first novel, The gift of Virgo (Mansalva).
