Turn

"Artistic projects for social inclusion inevitably lead to a transformation in the way we see and conceive of our surroundings.” Aware of this potential, this susceptibility to change, the Japanese artist Katsuhiko Hibino will be presenting a new phase in the Turn/BIENALSUR project which was initially developed at the first Biennial in 2017. This art activity seeks to encourage people with different experiences to exchange their knowledge, and works closely with minority communities and thus produce art which can be later exhibited.

This project was created with an eye on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and is currently being replicated in several different countries. For BIENALSUR 2019, Hibino will be working with the Quilmes indigenous community living in the Calchaqui valleys in the north of Tucuman province. The project envisages workshops and in-depth discussion about the ancient sacred teachings of the Quichua people, as well as invitations to participate and exchange experiences issued to the broader community, suggesting an ineluctable opportunity for transformation for all those involved.
