Carlos Martiel is a Cuban performance artist, born in Havana in 1989 and currently based in New York. His work critically explores migration, race, and identity through powerful bodily interventions. He has participated in major international biennials, including the Venice Biennale, Vancouver Biennale, and Cuenca Biennial. His performances have been showcased at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and MASP in São Paulo. Martiel’s work, which highlights the body’s resilience against oppression, has received awards such as the Franklin Furnace Fund. His pieces are part of prestigious collections, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Pérez Art Museum Miami.
