Bill Viola

Bill Viola (New York, 1951) is a video art pioneer renowned for his exploration of spirituality and universal human themes. Inspired by Zen Buddhism, Sufism, and Western art, Viola masterfully integrates advanced audiovisual technologies into works like Martyrs and Mary at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. Representing the U.S. at the 1995 Venice Biennale, he has exhibited at the Whitney Museum and Palazzo Strozzi. His accolades include the MacArthur Fellowship and the Praemium Imperiale.
