Cai Guo-Qiang, a Chinese artist born in 1957, is globally recognized for his gunpowder art and large-scale site-specific interventions. His work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Prado Museum, and the Palace Museum in Beijing. Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale (1999), he created Sky Ladder, the subject of a Netflix documentary. He also designed the fireworks for the 2008 and 2022 Beijing Olympic Games. Currently, he lives and works in New York.
