Vik Muniz
Vik Muniz (born in 1961 in São Paulo, Brazil) is a contemporary visual artist known for his innovative use of unconventional materials in photography and drawing. Throughout his career, he has explored memory, perception, and image representation. In 1988, he created The Best of Life, a series of drawings based on his memory of famous photographs. In the 90s, Muniz started incorporating materials such as dust, sugar, and chocolate into his photographic process, developing what he calls the "worst possible illusion."
His Pictures of Chocolate series (1997) brought him international recognition, and his work has been exhibited in renowned museums like the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2010, his work at the Jardim Gramacho landfill was documented in the film Waste Land. Muniz is known for blending contemporary art with everyday materials, creating visually impactful works.
