Yan Pei-Ming, born in 1960 in Shanghai, China, is an artist known for his powerful paintings addressing themes such as death, war, and politics. His career gained momentum with his series of portraits of Mao Zedong painted in 1993. His distinctive style features large canvases with dark backgrounds, where brush-painted figures blend into the space. Regarded as an heir to great historical painters like David and Goya, Yan Pei-Ming has exhibited at prestigious institutions including the Venice Biennale, the Louvre Museum, and the Louis Vuitton Foundation.
