Saidel Brito
Saidel Brito (Cuba) is a visual artist, curator, and educator. He studied at the National School of Arts in Cubanacán and the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana. Since 1998, he has lived in Ecuador, where he is a prominent figure in contemporary art. He holds a Master’s degree in Higher Education from Universidad Casa Grande (Guayaquil) and is pursuing a PhD in Art Sciences at the University of the Arts in Cuba. He teaches at Universidad Casa Grande and serves as Rector of ITAE (Instituto Superior Tecnológico de Artes del Ecuador). Brito has held 16 solo exhibitions, including Habeas Corpus (2004) and Ruinas del relato (2011) at Galería Dpm (Guayaquil), and Ni de allá ni de aquí (2002) at Galería Habana. He has participated in over 70 group exhibitions in Asia, Europe, and the Americas, including at Whitechapel Art Gallery (London), Museo de Ponce (Puerto Rico), Conde Duque Cultural Center (Madrid), El Museo del Barrio (NYC), and the Cuenca Biennial, where he won the grand prize in 2009. His work explores memory, history, identity, and the body through a critical and political lens.
