Joaquin Jordá

Joaquín Jordá (Spain, 1935–2006) was a filmmaker and screenwriter, a central figure of the New Spanish Cinema of the 1960s. Co-founder of the Barcelona School, he developed a body of work that combined formal experimentation with political commitment. Among his most notable films are Dante Is Not Solely Severe (1967) and Numax Presents… (1980), a chronicle of the self-management process of a Barcelona factory. After suffering aphasia in 1997, he continued filmmaking and transformed that experience into documentary material in Mones com la Becky (1999). His work was recognized by institutions such as the Filmoteca de Catalunya and was the subject of retrospectives at international festivals. He is considered one of the most singular and influential filmmakers in twentieth-century Spanish cinema.
