Annette Messager
Annette Messager (France, b.1943) is a celebrated visual artist known for her groundbreaking installations that merge photography, printmaking, drawing, and everyday objects. Her work challenges gender norms and explores themes of identity, childhood, and the body through a provocative lens.
Since the 1970s, Messager has created iconic pieces such as The Approaches, a photographic series questioning male representation, and My Collection of Proverbs, where she embroidered misogynistic sayings. In 2005, her installation Casino won the top prize at the Venice Biennale.
Her exhibitions have been featured worldwide in institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, the Museo de Arte Moderno in Buenos Aires, and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. She remains a leading figure in contemporary installation art and feminist artistic discourse.
