Yasuaki Igarashi
Yasuaki Igarashi is a Japanese artist born in 1978 in Chiba Prefecture, known for his projects that connect art with local life and culture. He has undertaken significant journeys, such as sailing to Micronesia by yacht in 2005 and a 970km expedition along the Sea of Japan coast in 2012, experiences that formed the foundation for his Perspectives from the Sea project. Notable works include Kusukaki, an installation at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, and Sora-Ami, a fishing net erected with the help of local fishermen, exhibited at Setouchi Triennale. He also created Kumo-yui for the Japan Alps Arts Festival, symbolically connecting a lake with the clouds. His work Bundling Time was part of the 2017 Antarctic Biennale, where participants plaited ropes representing meridian lines and flew kites together at the South Pole.
