Mónica Van Asperen
Mónica Van Asperen (b. Buenos Aires, 1962) is a prominent Argentine visual artist whose practice spans sculpture, installation, photography, and performance. She holds a degree in Graphic Design from the University of Buenos Aires and studied Music and Mathematics, bringing an interdisciplinary lens to her work. Van Asperen trained with Guillermo Kuitca, Ricardo Garabito, and Rubén Shumacher, and collaborated with Richard Deacon through grants from Trama and the Royal Academy of the Netherlands. Her work has received numerous awards, including Argentina’s National Sculpture Prize (2005), Antorchas Grant (2004), and the Konex Award (2002). She has exhibited internationally at ARCO Madrid, Drawing Gallery (UK), Fotología (Colombia), Tamayo Museum (Mexico), Sofía Imber Museum (Caracas), and MAMBA. Her art explores the body, memory, and urban space, including sound installations and street performances. Her work is part of collections such as MAMBA, Castagnino Museum, and Fundación Televisa. Featured in La Nación, Clarín, and Art Nexus, Van Asperen continues to push the boundaries of visual, scenic, and conceptual art.
