Artur Barrio is a Portuguese-Brazilian artist, a pioneer of action and conceptual art in Latin America. Winner of the 2011 Velázquez Prize for Plastic Arts, his work challenges institutionalized art through ephemeral interventions and precarious materials. His situacões include DEFL…Situacão…+S+…Ruas… (1970) and LIVRO DE CARNE (1978-79). He has transformed museums with in situ experiences that question artistic conventions.
