Nicolás Combarro

Nicolás Combarro (A Coruña, 1979) is a Spanish visual artist, photographer, filmmaker, and curator. His interdisciplinary practice merges contemporary photography, installation, intervention, and documentary film to explore unfinished spaces, vernacular architecture, and urban structures that reveal historical, social, and spatial tensions. His work operates at the intersection of contemporary art, memory, and the built environment. Key projects include Interventions, Arquitectura espontánea, Arquitectura oculta, and Transformar la arquitectura, reflecting a sustained investigation into architecture and representation. As a filmmaker, he directed Alberto García-Alix. La línea de sombra, premiered at the Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián, highlighting his dialogue between photography and cinema. He has curated exhibitions of artists such as Alberto García-Alix and Anders Petersen and presented his work at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, CGAC, MARCO, and Institut Français (Madrid), as well as galleries in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Seoul, and Manila. His career has been recognized with awards including the Spanish Academy in Rome Fellowship, the INJUVE Photography Prize, and the Saab Prize at PhotoEspaña’s Off Festival.
