Oscar de Carmen
Oscar de Carmen is a contemporary artist and educator based in Oslo, Norway. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cuenca (UCLM, Spain) and earned an MFA from Malmö Art Academy within the Nordic Sound Art Programme (Sweden). His interdisciplinary practice — spanning installation, sound, performance and collaborative projects — investigates the relationship between economic systems, social ecology and cultural power structures, addressing questions of production, circulation, waste and value.
Since 2005 he has worked with Martinka Bobrikova as an artist duo. Their research explores the synergy between economic systems and contemporary biocenosis, proposing new social ecosystems at the intersection of art and urgent socio-political issues. They founded Nomad AIR, co-founded Future Utopia Community Key (Uddebo, Sweden), and initiated the anti-symposium IECES. Since 2020 they co-direct The Union in Oslo, a platform focused on transnational artistic practices, cultural mediation and alternative models of participation and care.
