Michela de Mattei
Michela de Mattei (Rome, Italy, 1984) is a visual artist whose practice spans different formats and media, including video, installation, sculpture, and drawing. Her work constructs fictional scenarios and speculative ecosystems in which relationships between humans, animals, and technologies intersect, reshaping the ways communication and coexistence between species can be imagined.
Through these narrative environments, de Mattei examines structures of authority, control, and hierarchy, while reflecting on animal agency and the transformation of communication systems in contemporary contexts. Her research engages with questions at the intersection of ecology, philosophy, and technology, proposing hybrid environments where the boundaries between nature, machine, and culture become fluid.
She studied Philosophy at Sapienza University of Rome, a background that informs her conceptual and research-driven approach to artistic practice.
Michela de Mattei currently lives and works in Milan, Italy.
