Matri-Archi(tecture)
Matri-Archi(tecture)© is an association and collaborative network of African and diasporic spatial practitioners dedicated to exploring histories, lived realities, and collective imaginaries through spatial expression. Working across architecture, art, design, and research, the collective creates projects that examine the cultural, social, and political dimensions of the built environment.
Founded in 2017 by architect Khensani Jurczok-de Klerk, Matri-Archi(tecture) brings together architects, artists, planners, scholars, and thinkers interested in reimagining the future of African spatial practices. Based in Switzerland and operating across cities in Africa and Europe, the collective functions as a translocal platform for collaboration, experimentation, and critical dialogue.
Through commissioned projects, research initiatives, and artistic collaborations, Matri-Archi foregrounds perspectives and voices often overlooked in mainstream architectural education and practice. Its work spans multiple media and scales, from spatial research and design to exhibitions, publications, and artistic interventions.
Since 2023 Matri-Archi(tecture) has been registered as an association (Verein) in Zürich, continuing to operate as a collective platform that promotes intersectional collaboration, ethical working relations, and new forms of knowledge production in architecture and spatial culture.
