Jellel Gasteli

Jellel Gasteli (Tunis, 1958) is a French-Tunisian photographer whose work explores the relationship between architecture, memory and abstraction within the Mediterranean and North African context. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles, France, and has developed a visual practice focused on observing urban and architectural surfaces as records of time and cultural history. His work is particularly known for La Série Blanche, a body of photographs that captures the interplay of light, shadow and geometry on the white façades of traditional Tunisian architecture. Through precise framing and a minimalist aesthetic, Gasteli transforms walls, doors and architectural fragments into compositions that approach pictorial abstraction. In his images, layers of paint, plaster and texture become material traces revealing processes of urban and cultural transformation. Throughout his career he has exhibited internationally and his work is included in important public and private collections. His practice operates at the intersection of photography, architecture and contemporary abstraction.
