Kamyar Bineshtarigh
Kamyar Bineshtarigh (Semnan, Iran, 1996) is a visual artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. His artistic practice operates at the intersection of language, writing and materiality, exploring how textual systems and cultural archives shape identity, memory and knowledge. He is currently completing his Fine Art studies at the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town.
In 2019 he received a Diploma in Fine Art from the Ruth Prowse School of Art, where he was awarded the Ruth Prowse Award for his project An Exhaustive Catalogue of Texts Dealing with the Orient. The project examined Edward Said’s concept of Orientalism, reflecting on the cultural construction of the “Orient” within Western intellectual traditions.
His work combines writing, drawing, assemblage and material transfer processes, producing surfaces where text becomes visual form and abstract gesture. Through these strategies, Bineshtarigh investigates the relationship between language, power and representation, developing a research-based artistic practice that engages critically with history, culture and contemporary visual production.
