Bethan Hughes
Bethan Hughes studied Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art and Media Art at Bauhaus University Weimar. In 2020, she earned her PhD from the University of Leeds with the dissertation Against Immateriality: 3D CGI and Contemporary Art. Her practice unfolds through installations that translate research into sculpture, moving image, sound, and text—exploring how matter transforms through industrial and digital processes and their political, social, sensual, and immaterial dimensions. Her work has recently been presented in solo shows at Centrum Berlin, HAUNT/frontviews Berlin, and the group exhibition Mutual Matters: Goldrausch 2021 at Haubrok Foundation. She was a Braunschweig Projects fellow (2019–2020), received a visual arts research grant from the City of Berlin (2021), and took part in the European Media Art Platform residency at LABoral Art and Industrial Creation Center in 2023.
