Cristian Villavicencio

Cristian Villavicencio (Quito, Ecuador, 1984) is a visual artist, educator and researcher. His work explores subjective processes that disrupt scientific order, enabling speculation on symbolic imagination. He has exhibited at the 15th Cuenca Biennial, FLACSO Contemporary Art Center, University of the Arts (Ecuador), and in the Basque Country at Montehermoso Kulturunea, Guggenheim Bilbao and BilbaoArte. He participated in the Ars Electronica Festival (Austria). Currently, he is completing a PhD in Contemporary Art at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), supported by a Basque Government fellowship. He was awarded the Basque Artist Program fellowship (Guggenheim NY and Bilbao), and has completed residencies at Bulegoa z/b, BilbaoArte, York University (Canada), Interface Cultures (Austria), and MA Studio (China).
