Kütral Vargas Huaiquimilla
Kütral Vargas Huaiquimilla (Calbuco, Wallmapu, 1989) is a Mapuche-Huilliche poet, visual artist, and performer based in Valdivia, Chile. Her multidisciplinary work—spanning poetry, performance, and visual arts—proposes an aesthetic and political language that challenges colonial structures and reconfigures the body as an expanding Mapuche territory.
Vargas has showcased her work in Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Cuba, Costa Rica, Spain, and across Chile. She received the 2017 Art and Culture Award for the Los Lagos Region and the 2020 Literary Creation Grant from Chile's Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage. Her work has been published in numerous Latin American literary journals and anthologies.
She has led poetry and visual arts workshops at Balmaceda Arte Joven and is an active editor and educator in artistic education initiatives. Her practice combines decolonial thought, gender sensitivity, and Indigenous epistemologies, articulating a powerful body-territory memory through contemporary artistic resistance.
