Pérez y Requena
Pérez y Requena is the artistic duo formed by Israel Pérez and María Requena, who live and work in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. Both graduated in Fine Arts from the University of La Laguna in 2000 and later obtained a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Painting from the same institution. They currently combine their artistic practice with teaching at the University of La Laguna.
Their work spans multiple media related to painting, drawing, installation, and contemporary image-making, exploring the relationships between visual narrative, symbolic construction, and cultural imaginaries. Through conceptual and formal strategies, their practice investigates the tensions between representation, perception, and memory while addressing themes connected to visual culture, identity, and social transformation.
They have participated in numerous group exhibitions at institutions and art centers such as TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, MUSAC, Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM), and the Museum of Fine Arts of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as well as international art fairs and biennials including ARCO Madrid and the International Biennial of Architecture, Art and Landscape of the Canary Islands. They have also presented solo exhibitions at venues such as Fundación Mapfre Guanarteme Art Space, La Caixa Art Space, Sala de Arte Contemporáneo (SAC), and Galería BIBLI.
