Teresa Arozena

Teresa Arozena (Canary Islands, 1973) is a visual artist, researcher, and curator whose practice operates at the intersection of contemporary photography, visual culture, and post-documentary aesthetics. Her work critically examines contemporary regimes of visibility and representation, exploring the relationships between image, body, territory, and event. She holds a degree in Fine Arts and a PhD from the University of La Laguna, where she currently teaches and conducts research. Her practice combines artistic production, theoretical inquiry, and curatorial projects. Her doctoral dissertation, Cinematic Displacements of Representation: The Radical Experience of Photography (2009), analyzes the transformations of photography beyond the classical documentary paradigm and its dialogue with digital media. Since the 1990s, Arozena has exhibited internationally across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Her work has been presented at institutions including CAAM, TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, Centro de Arte La Regenta, MIAC Lanzarote, Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center (Havana), Fondation Clément (Martinique), Nabi Art Center (Seoul), the Dakar Biennale, and Art Basel Miami.
