Mónica Bate
Mónica Bate Vidal (Santiago de Chile, 1978) is a Chilean visual artist and academic whose work focuses on new media and sound within the visual arts. She holds a BA in Visual Arts with a specialization in Photography and a Postgraduate Degree in Art and New Technologies from the University of Chile. She has also studied at Harvestworks Media Arts Center and New York University (NYU), where she earned the Max/MSP Jitter Certificate.
Her career bridges artistic practice, research, and education. She currently teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University of Chile. Her work—exploring the intersection of technology, sound, and image—has been showcased in Chile and abroad. Notable projects include Acoustic Views, the IS3 series, Strings, and The Life of Crystals, all addressing themes of science, nature, and perception.
She has also worked as a cultural producer, notably at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santiago in the “Anilla Cultural Latinoamérica-Europa” project. Bate Vidal is a prominent figure in contemporary Chilean art, particularly in the field of technological and sonic experimentation.
