Marcos Figueroa
Marcos Figueroa (b. 1953, Tucumán, Argentina) is a visual artist, independent curator, and arts researcher who lives and works in San Miguel de Tucumán. A pivotal figure in Northern Argentina’s contemporary art scene, his practice intersects architecture, performance, and political critique.
Figueroa studied architecture at the National University of Tucumán (UNT), where he also later served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts (1999–2006). His artistic journey began through scenographic explorations and activism during Argentina’s dictatorship. As a member of the Grupo Norte (1980–1982), he produced works that challenged censorship. In 1986, he began leading Taller C, introducing contemporary art practices into the regional academic and artistic environment.
His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Career Achievement Award at the XI National Salon of Contemporary Art (MUNT, 2015), Second Prize at the VII National Painting Prize Banco Central (2013), and First Prize at the XLI Salón Nacional de Tucumán (2012).
