Gustavo Germano

Gustavo Germano (Chajarí, Entre Ríos, 1964) is an Argentine photographer internationally recognized for his work on historical memory, human rights, and forced disappearances in Latin America and Europe. Brother of Eduardo Germano, who was forcibly disappeared during Argentina’s dictatorship, his work reflects a deep personal and political commitment. Since the 1990s, Germano has developed key documentary projects including "Absences", "Distances", "Searches", and "Counter-disappeared", using photography as a powerful medium of testimony, memory, and justice. Based in Barcelona since 2001, he focuses on civic memory projects related to state terrorism in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Spain. His exhibitions have tackled the legacy of Francoist crimes, the 1939 Republican exile, and the appropriation of newborns. His work has been shown in major museums, galleries, and public spaces across the Americas and Europe.
