María Figueredo Vaz

María Figueredo Vaz is a visual artist, photographer, and researcher. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Arts at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil), where she also earned a Master’s degree in Visual Arts. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from Escola Guignard (UEMG), with a specialization in photography. Her work explores the relationship between memory, oblivion, territory, and imagination through poetic fabulations that combine image, text, and public/private archives, with photography as her primary language. Nominated for the 2023 PIPA Prize, she is a member of the Women Photograph and Mulheres Luz collectives. She has been awarded the XVI Funarte Marc Ferrez Photography Prize, the Pierre Verger National Photography Prize, and the Diário Contemporâneo de Fotografia Prize. Her photobook Ilustríssimos was published with support from the Photothings Prize. She co-founded the duo Paisagens Móveis with Bárbara Lissa, focusing on environmental themes and ecocriticism. Together, they produced the exhibition When Time Weighs a Ton (BDMG Cultural 2022) and published the photobooks Três Momentos de um Rio and Óris. Her work has been exhibited in Brazil and abroad, weaving together art, ecology, and archival practice.
